Yorkshire Actuarial Society – Secretary

Application closing date: 28 February

The Yorkshire Actuarial Society (YAS) was founded in 1981 and is the regional society for actuaries across all practice areas based in Yorkshire. With over 500 members, YAS runs CPD, networking and social events for our membership. Examples of recent events include mini conferences held jointly with local universities, professional skills workshops, and CPD presentations followed by drinks and nibbles. Events are typically held in-person in either Leeds or York.

YAS is managed by a committee of volunteers. The Secretary is responsible for the day-to-day running of YAS, supported by the committee. Their responsibilities include:

  • chairing quarterly YAS committee meetings
  • managing the YAS email and social media accounts
  • carrying out administrative support in the organisation of events
  • liaising with the IFoA on regional society matters

To respond to the evolving needs of our members, YAS has recently changed its focus to concentrate on a smaller number of bigger events during the year. This provides a fantastic opportunity for a new Secretary to join and make their mark on the running of YAS. The Secretary will also have the opportunity to learn new skills, engage with the IFoA, and build their professional network locally.

Time commitment

The time commitment varies throughout the year but will not typically be more than a maximum of five hours per month.
