Nicola Draper awarded Honorary Fellowship

24 July 2024

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries is delighted to confirm the election of Nicola Draper as an Honorary Fellow.

Following her nomination and approval by the IFoA’s Council, Nicola’s election as an Honorary Fellow was confirmed by an online member vote in July 2024.

Nicola was nominated for an Honorary Fellowship in recognition of her services to medicine and public health, including her service as Co-Chair of the Covid-19 Actuaries Response Group. She is a leading expert in public health and associated mortality, morbidity, and longevity risk. In 2007, she co-founded the firm Medical Intelligence, which now provides ongoing research and support to actuaries from many of the leading consultancies, pension, and insurance companies in Europe and the US.

In early 2020, Nicola joined the Covid-19 Action Taskforce and working party, as a prominent and founder member of the non-affiliated Covid-19 Actuaries Response Group. In 2021 she was awarded the IFoA President’s Award, in recognition of her medical expertise and extraordinary commitment to the actuarial profession.

IFoA President Kartina Tahir Thomson said: “I am delighted that Nicola has been elected as our newest Honorary Fellow. Her service to the actuarial profession, most notably during the Covid-19 pandemic has been exemplary and she consistently demonstrates the values of the IFoA in serving the public interest. I look forward to continue working with Nicola to further the actuarial agenda.”

In addition to her election as an Honorary Fellow, Nicola has authored a ‘think’ piece for the IFoA, looking at the impact of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill. The piece will be published on 6 August on our ‘think’ thought leadership series webpage.
