Associate Membership

Associateship is the first level of qualification granted by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) at which individuals have the right to describe themselves as a qualified actuary.

Actuaries who gain their qualifications through the IFoA can describe themselves as a Chartered Actuary . Chartered status is a simple way to denote the level of training, professionalism and expertise its holder offers.

Associateship carries the designation of AIA (Associate of the Institute of Actuaries) or AFA (Associate of the Faculty of Actuaries).  As an Associate, you will have qualified at a generalist level and have a breadth of expertise that brings wide and varied opportunities. Those who also adopt chartered status can use the designation Chartered Actuary (Associate) and the post nominals AIA C.Act or AFA C.Act.

Associates have the right to vote on matters affecting the future of the profession and the opportunity to be involved in membership forums, events and research.
