The IFoA’s Greater China Team is pleased to host a technical member event which will be live streamed in Shanghai. The theme is ‘latest trends and topics in China insurance market: sharing and discussion’.

We look forward to your participation onsite or virtually. Join us and hear the insights from specialists in life and healthcare fields.

The event will be free of charge for all IFoA members.

Highlights

We’re honoured to have Flora Shao, Regional Chief Actuary, Gen Re Life/Health China & Hong Kong SAR and Haifei Chen, Regional General Manager, Gen Re Asia as our speakers. They will deliver presentations on:

  • impact of the low interest environment: experiences from overseas markets
  • long term care and its pilot solutions in China

Guest speakers and floor members will be invited to exchange their views on how insurers can:

  • deploy countermeasures against the challenges from long-term low interest rate environment
  • seize the opportunity for commercialisation expansion of elderly healthcare in China

Presentation 1: impact of the low interest environment: experiences from overseas markets 

Haifei Chen, Regional General Manager, Gen Re Asia, will:

  • give an introduction to the low interest rate environment in China and its impact on life insurers
  • share holistic vison on the historical impacts of declining interest rates to overseas life insurance industry
  • explore strategy change and countermeasures of overseas life insurance companies from the perspectives of asset allocation, product and pricing, business management, and others

Presentation 2: long term care and its pilot solutions in China

Flora Shao, Regional Chief Actuary, Gen Re Life/Health China & Hong Kong SAR will:

  • give an introduction to the existing operation mode of social long-term care insurance in China
  • explore the implementation practices in different pilot areas and observations on the outcomes 
  • explore the commercial long-term care insurance development: product features, challenges, and risk management

Flora Shao, FIA, FCAA
Regional Chief Actuary, Gen Re Life/Health China & Hong Kong SAR

Flora Shao is Regional Chief Actuary, Gen Re Life/Health China. Her main responsibility involves actuarial pricing, data analytics, and new product research of life and health business in mainland China and Hong Kong SAR, and to provide actuarial advice along with technical support for Gen Re clients.

Flora has nearly 20 years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to her current role, she gained product management, actuarial valuation, and strategic merger and acquisition experiences in life (re)insurance companies and consulting firms. Flora is a Fellow of the IFoA and a Fellow of China Association of Actuaries.

Haifei Chen, FSA
Regional Geneal Manager, Gen Re Asia

Haifei Chen is Regional General Manager, Gen Re Asia. He leads Gen Re’s Life/Health business in mainland China and Hong Kong SAR. Haifei started his career in Singapore and has nearly 20 years of experience in life insurance and reinsurance industry.

Haifei joined Gen Re in 2006. He assumed roles of Chief Representative of Beijing Office and Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Branch, General Manager of Gen Re Life/Health China. Haifei specialises in product development, marketing, and corporate management. He holds a Master’s Degree in Science and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA).
