To launch our new international group mentoring programme, we present the first of 3 fireside chats featuring mentors, mentees, and trustees of the IFoA Foundation.

Please join us live to hear mentor and actuary Greg Solomon, based in Hong Kong, talk with Bradley Shearer about his international career, the power of storytelling, and the group mentoring sessions he facilitates with IFoA Foundation beneficiaries.

Alumna of our pilot programme Esa Zya from Zambia will share her experience as a mentee.

IFoA Foundation trustee Masimba Zata will give an overview of the foundation, what we aim to achieve through offering mentoring to recent graduates, and how you can get involved.

Featured Speakers

Greg Solomon, FIA and Fellow of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong, is Chair of the IFoA’s Life and Health Reinsurance Working Party, consultant at Eigengrey Consulting, and is the creator of the Hashtag Your Life system.

He is a frequent presenter at conferences around the world, and has written many technical and non-technical articles for a variety of publications. He has been in client management, business development, and profit centre management for most of his international career. He shares his tips on communication, negotiation, business development, and more with the IFoA Foundation’s mentees.

Esa Zya is an IFoA student based in Zambia, and was a mentee in the IFoA Foundation’s pilot Group Mentoring Programme earlier in 2023. She has an MS Actuarial Science from Heriot-Watt University plus degrees from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences and Copperbelt University. Currently working as a business analyst in the insurance industry, she has also lectured at the University of Lusaka. Esa has a passion for mathematics and statistics, and her goal is to use her actuarial skills to help develop the insurance, pensions, and investment sectors.

Masimba Zata, FIA, is a trustee of the IFoA Foundation, and a Council member of the IFoA. He is currently a Director in Moody’s Analytics’ insurance business, working with insurance clients in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and North America. He began his career in pensions, before shifting to risk and insurance, giving him deep expertise in insurance accounting and risk-based solvency regimes. He is also a visiting lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, as well as a member of the Institute of Directors.

Chair

Bradley Shearer, FIA & CFA, founded Protagion Active Career Management to support professionals, including actuaries, globally to achieve their career goals through professional mentoring and coaching. He began his career as a finance actuary, and product and pricing leadership roles followed, allowing him to gain experience across insurance, employee benefits and pensions, and investments and wealth management. He is involved in professionalism skills training for the IFoA, its Skills and Domains Committee, and its Finance and Investment Board.
