The big pitch: pitch the next big research topic in health, care and protection

Date: Tuesday 18 March 2025
Time: 15:00 to 18:00 (GMT)

This is a new style sessional research and networking event focused on hot topics in the health, care and protection markets. The Health and Care Lifelong Learning Sub-committee invites members to submit a paper for this exciting new event to present and discuss the next big ideas that could transform the protection, health and care markets.

This is an exciting opportunity to pitch your idea in front of fellow members and help inform the future direction of research within the profession. We are looking for research papers and presentations that strike a balance between solid technical content and engaging, forward-thinking ideas. The intention is that successful papers will also be published in the British Actuarial Journal (BAJ) and may also form the basis of a future research working party.

Potential topics

  • Medical trends
  • Policy and social care
  • Health and wealth of the nation
  • Any future emerging issues or significant considerations for society

Format

  • Please submit a 100-word abstract below by Tuesday 26 November 2024.
  • Should your topic be selected, you will be notified in mid November and required to submit a short research paper (approximately 4,000 to 7,000 words or 8 to 12 pages) by 14 February 2025.
  • The successful papers will be presented in-person in London on 18 March 2025. These short research papers are intended to provoke discussion and we intend them to be published in the BAJ, and potentially form the basis of a future research working party.
  • The format of the event will include 2 to 3 presentations of 30 minutes each, including Q&A, followed by canapés and networking.
  • Authors submitting papers should follow the BAJ style guide, and an exemplar paper can be viewed on the BAJ website. Authors will also be expected to work with the BAJ editorial team to advance their paper to publication.

Submit your proposals and be part of an engaging, forward-looking event.

Note: While we may not announce a ‘winner’ on the night, we commit to considering the views of both the audience and the panel to ensure the viability and direction of the research proposals.
