The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) is looking for Business Assessors to support the delivery of a key assessment within our prestigious actuarial qualification framework.

The role
As a Business Assessor, you will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and quality of the IFoA’s business assessments. Working closely with IFoA staff and other assessors, you will ensure assessments are conducted in line with our guidelines and grading criteria.
2025’s courses are scheduled to start in June. The anticipated marking period will be the first two weeks of every month with an approximate marking load of 65 business reports. Loads may vary dependant on enrolments, time of year and assessor capacity.
Key responsibilities
- Personal administration of your own assessment activity, including maintenance of accurate records and strict adherence to agreed timelines.
- Conducting assessments in line with IFoA guidance and published grading schemes.
- Positive engagement and effective communication with IFoA staff.
- Active participation in standardisation events.
- Responding positively and constructively to feedback from Lead Assessor and standardisation activities, adapting your approach as directed.
- Recording, storing, and disposing of sensitive data in line with IFoA’s policies and procedures.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date CPD records.
- Reporting any actual or suspected conflicts of interest.
- Immediate reporting of any occurrences of malpractice, maladministration, or adverse effects.
Skills
- Understanding of assessment concepts such as validity, reliability, and holistic assessment.
- Attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
- The ability to manage your own workload, prioritise tasks, and deliver within agreed schedules and timelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all stakeholders.
- Adept with the Microsoft Office suite and be comfortable picking up new IT packages, including online conferencing systems and IFoA systems.

This is a remunerated role, and a fee will be paid
Mutually agreed services will be outlined in a ‘schedule of services’ which will be provided to you on successful appointment. On successful completion of the services, you will be required to submit an invoice to the IFoA. The IFoA will provide you with a template invoice to use. Please note that this role is classified as a ‘self-employed contractor’.
Qualifications and experience
You must meet the occupational competence requirements for CB3 Business Management as defined by the syllabus, plus any additional requirements specified by the IFoA.
Essential requirements
- Hold a degree in Business
- Administration/Management or equivalent relevant professional qualification
- Understanding of business management
- At least 3 years of experience working in the sector
- Hold the appropriate assessor qualification (D32/D33 or A1/A2 or TAQA Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement)
- Hold the appropriate IQA (internal quality assurance) Qualification (Lead Assessor only).
