IFoA establishes the Greater China Committee

30 December 2024

Against a backdrop of the fast-evolving global insurance and financial markets, the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) established the Greater China Committee (GCC) in November 2024. This initiative aims to pro-actively engage with all members and stakeholders in Greater China, further enhancing the IFoA’s influence in the region and promoting actuarial science and roles of actuaries in the region.

As the longest established actuarial organisation in the world, the IFoA has extensive experience in actuarial education, professional development, and setting industry standards for actuaries. The committee members of the GCC are volunteers of the profession. They come from various sectors of the industry in the region, from life, general insurance and investment to consulting and reinsurance. They are committed to promote, support and champion the interests of IFoA members.

The committee will also be an advocate of the IFoA, fulfil the IFoA’s advocacy for serving the public interest, and strengthen the IFoA’s position as a leading global actuarial body in the region.

Key responsibilities of the committee

  1. Continuing professional development (CPD) and thought leadership: Organising high-level seminars, professional training activities, and industry forums. By doing so, the committee will promote communication and knowledge sharing among members and industry organisations, aiming to support the IFoA to build stronger engagement with members and industry in the region.
  2. Actuarial education: Partnering with local universities to strengthen the IFoA’s educational offerings in the region.
  3. Professionalism: Promoting the IFoA’s Actuaries Code in the region. Building closer ties with local insurance companies, industry associations, and regulatory bodies.
  4. Social networking and communication: Promoting the GCC and its work.
