Against a backdrop of the fast-evolving global insurance and financial markets, the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) established the Greater China Committee (GCC) in November 2024. This initiative aims to pro-actively engage with all members and stakeholders in Greater China, further enhancing the IFoA’s influence in the region and promoting actuarial science and roles of actuaries in the region.
As the longest established actuarial organisation in the world, the IFoA has extensive experience in actuarial education, professional development, and setting industry standards for actuaries. The committee members of the GCC are volunteers of the profession. They come from various sectors of the industry in the region, from life, general insurance and investment to consulting and reinsurance. They are committed to promote, support and champion the interests of IFoA members.
The committee will also be an advocate of the IFoA, fulfil the IFoA’s advocacy for serving the public interest, and strengthen the IFoA’s position as a leading global actuarial body in the region.
The GCC co-chairs are:
The two Secretaries-General are senior IFoA fellows Mr Feifei Zhang and Mr Steven Yu. Both Feifei and Steven also served on the IFoA Council.
Other committee members are fellows/members of the IFoA in the Greater China region.
The GCC is preparing for its January launch event. It will take place in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Invitations have been sent to members in the region.
