Responsible AI Working Party – members

Application closing date: 15 March

The IFoA is seeking to appoint members to the newly formed Responsible AI Working Party. We would welcome applications from both IFoA members and suitably experienced non-members.

The working party will explore the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence. The initial output will be a report which will cover the below core themes.

1. Understanding the impacts of AI

Examining the environmental, social, and broader systemic impacts arising from increased adoption of AI technologies, including energy use, resource consumption, workforce implications, and potential inequities.

2. Implications for corporate practice

Identifying the considerations organisations should incorporate into their AI strategies (for example AI safety policies and policies for treating labour displacement) to responsibly manage business risks, ensure transparency, and minimise negative real world impacts on people and the environment.

3. The role of the actuarial profession in shaping policy

Exploring how the actuarial profession can collaborate with policymakers to define effective guardrails, standards, and governance frameworks that support safe, ethical, and sustainable deployment of AI across industries.

In the longer term, the working party may also consider the potential link between responsible AI deployment and organisational performance, which could involve collaboration with other IFoA practice boards such as finance and investment.

We are keen to hear from actuaries and other professionals with expertise or interest in AI governance, sustainability, risk management, technology strategy, or public policy. We would also welcome applications from individuals working in corporate risk functions, sustainability teams, academia, and legal or regulatory roles connected to AI or emerging technologies.

Time commitment

The time commitment varies but will, on average, not be more than 2 hours a month. The working party will consist of monthly meetings which will be held online. Location is not a barrier.
