Pensions Board – members

Application closing date: 5 January

The Pensions Board is a member-led committee of volunteer actuaries. It advises the IFoA on important pensions issues and is a source of expertise within the profession on matters relating to the pensions practice area. It supports and promotes the interests of practice area members in accordance with the profession’s strategic objectives.

Our ongoing focus is to:

  • continue to work with key stakeholders and influence pensions policy
  • work with the IFoA on strategies for attracting and retaining members within the area of pensions
  • provide support to UK pensions actuaries in current and developing areas of work
  • actively consider what, if any, support can be provided to non-UK pensions actuaries

We strive for diversity within the board, both in terms of geographical representation and areas of expertise.

We are seeking at least two new members to join the board from March 2025 who are:

  • actuaries working in defined contribution (DC)
  • scheme actuaries
  • early career members (including students)

We welcome applications from qualified individuals who are passionate about contributing to the advancement of the pensions practice area and supporting the profession’s strategic goals.

Benefits from being involved include:

  • influencing and contributing to the pensions practice area and strategy
  • receiving professional support and assistance from the board and IFoA staff
  • having the opportunity to influence the IFoA’s approach to progressing its strategy
  • getting a chance to further develop your professional network of contacts within the pensions industry

Time commitment

On average, members are expected to attend one online meeting (approximately 2.5 hours) quarterly with some additional work on assigned actions in between.
