The IFoA is seeking to appoint both members and suitably experienced non-members to join the newly formed Economics of Healthy Diet and Food System Working Party.
The working party is particularly keen to hear from actuaries, risk experts or professionals with expertise in the food system. Ideally applicants will have sustainability/health backgrounds or an interest in public policy, climate change and preventative healthcare.
The working party will focus on the economic, fiscal, and risk consequences of transitioning to a healthier national diet, using the UK as a case study. Potential areas of research include to quantify the long-term impact of a healthy diet on:
The successful volunteers will have the opportunity to influence the scope of the working party’s future output and direction of travel.
The working party will produce an initial report by the end of 2025 and disseminate this to the public in 2026. The group also aims to input into a potential follow-up to the Planetary Solvency report.
The time commitment varies but will not be more than a maximum of 2 hours per month. The working party will meet online every 4 weeks with more regular meeting as required. Location is not a barrier to joining the group. A member of the IFoA Public Affairs Team will attend meetings.
