Mentoring and our mission: the public interest and social impact

Please join us for our second fireside chat featuring another mentor, mentee, and trustee of the IFoA Foundation. Forming part of our 2023/2024 Aspiring Actuaries Mentoring programme, this fireside chat is open to all, including mentees past & present, mentors, donors, beneficiaries, and other interested parties worldwide.

Listen in live as Lusani Mulaudzi, professional mentor and actuary based in South Africa, talks with Bradley Shearer about his role as a Public Interest Actuary, his work across countries, and his views on the impact leaders can have. Past mentee Peddina Sripriya from India will share her thoughts on the role actuarial students can play in serving the public interest and impacting society, plus how the IFoA Foundation and the mentoring programme have impacted her career so far. And, IFoA Foundation Trustee Chantal Bond will reflect on social impact and diversity given the Foundation's mission, plus her experiences working across countries over her actuarial career.

Featured Speakers

Lusani Mulaudzi, FASSA, is the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA)’s Public Interest Actuary. He’s also an independent Non-Executive Director and a lecturer at the University of Cape Town.

His background is in healthcare and consulting, and he has worked with actuarial bodies across Africa. In addition to his professional work (including as past president of ASSA), Lusani has been involved in the leadership structures of several community development organisations.

Sripriya Peddina is an aspiring actuary based in Bengaluru, India.

A past IFoA Foundation mentee, she has an MSc Actuarial Science from Christ University and is also a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India and an Affiliate of ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). She works in the life and health valuation team at Swiss Re.

Sripriya loves volunteering and taking part in environmental initiatives and aspires to increase insurance awareness and improve affordability for marginalised communities. She is passionate about teaching too, and has taught actuarial subjects at her university, helping students to ask great questions and apply their knowledge.

Chantal is based in Singapore and is Chief Reserving Actuary for Asia Pacific at SCOR.

In that role, she leads valuation and corporate actuarial functions for 12 Life and General Insurance entities in China, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, India & Malaysia.

Her career has spanned reinsurance, direct insurance and bancassurance so far, and she is passionate about access to insurance, believing wholeheartedly in fairness in financial services and protecting vulnerable customers.

Chantal is Vice Chair of the IFoA Foundation.

CHAIR

Bradley founded Protagion Active Career Management to support professionals, including actuaries, globally to achieve their career goals through professional mentoring and coaching.

He began his career as a finance actuary and product and pricing leadership roles followed, allowing him to gain experience across insurance, employee benefits and pensions, and investments and wealth management.

He is involved in professionalism skills training for the IFoA, its Skills & Domains Committee, and its Finance & Investment Board.
