The latest IPCC report highlights the inequity of climate change, with those least responsible bearing many of the worst impacts. This event covers the unequal impacts of climate change, the role of policy and regulation in incorporating justice into the low carbon transition and the impact investors can have in encouraging companies to develop Just Transition plans, with speakers from the investor community, the consultant community and the policy making sphere.
Sandy Trust is passionate about climate change and sustainability. His personal mission is to help re-tool the financial system to deliver a future worth living in. He is passionate about this because we have a capital allocation problem: unless we change the way we think about investing, we will be unable to solve the climate and sustainability crises.
He works in financial services with large investors: pension schemes, asset managers, and insurance companies with typically several hundred billion dollars of assets under management. Sandy helps them to develop and implement their approaches to sustainability, allowing them to protect value, comply with regulation, and compete in this fast moving area.
Sandy is past Chair of the UK actuarial profession’s Sustainability Board. He was the first ESG hire into EY’s UK Financial Services business, helping to build its consulting capability in this space. He is Head of Organisational Risk at M&G plc, a FTSE 100 investment firm, where he is the risk lead on sustainability. Sandy also works in the charity sector and founded the UK branch of climate action charity Protect Our Winters UK.
He lives in Edinburgh with his wife and two children and loves getting outdoors.

In April 2006, Paul’s UNEP Finance Initiative team successfully delivered the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) launched by the late UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. Paul was a Founding UN Board Member to the PRI from launch for six years (2006-2012). The paper focuses on the future of sustainable finance in the context of accounting, reporting and disclosure. In March 2012 Paul left the UN to establish The Blended Capital Group, an advisory company which also invests in sustainability aligned business. MWEZI Solar is one such example. In 2012, Paul backed MWEZI, a for-profit last mile distributor of clean energy and productive use solar powered agricultural technologies now serving 60,000 farming and fishing families in Western Kenya through affordable credit with insurance. Paul is now taking the MWEZI model into Amazonia, Brazil, with the backing of one of the country’s largest water and sanitation utilities.
