Annual General Meeting

A general meeting shall constitute the highest legislative assembly of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).

The IFoA holds an Annual General Meeting (AGM) at least once in each calendar year. Your views are important to us.

 

Annual General Meeting 2024

The 2024 AGM will take place in Guangzhou, China as part of the IFoA Asia Conference on Wednesday 24 July 2024, starting at 16:45 CST (09:45 BST). 

We are keen to provide access to all our members, wherever they are based. We are planning a livestream so that you can watch the AGM online and if, for any reason, the meeting cannot take place in China, we will deliver the AGM virtually.

A viewing of the AGM livestream will also take place at Staple Inn Hall, where Immediate Past President Matt Saker, Chair of the IFoA Board David Currie, and members of the IFoA Executive Leadership Team will be present.

Bye-law 54 provides that the business at an AGM shall be as follows:

  • to receive and consider the report of the Council (the IFoA’s Annual Report, and Finance and Governance Report)
  • to receive and consider the accounts of the IFoA for the past financial period
  • the appointment of the IFoA’s auditors and the setting of their fees
  • announcement of the election of new members of Council (you can see the results of the 2023 elections at IFoA Council elections)
  • any other business which may, consistently with the Charter and Bye-laws, be announced: this year, we will announce the outcome of a member vote to award Honorary Fellowship to nominated individuals.

Listening to, and learning from, our members is central to our aim to provide a better and more valuable experience to you, and our AGM provides a great opportunity for you to share your thoughts and concerns with us.

Those members who join us for the AGM will have the option to submit questions to presenters on the day. You can also submit questions in advance by emailing James Harrigan, the IFoA’s Corporate Secretary, at james.harrigan@actuaries.org.uk. We will endeavour to answer all questions either at the meeting itself, or electronically thereafter.

 

Presidential address 2024

At the AGM, Kartina Tahir Thomson will be formally installed as our President for the 2024/25 session. Her inaugural Presidential address is scheduled to take place at Staple Inn Hall on Wednesday 31 July starting at 11:00 AM BST.
