Health and care – Social Care Research Working Party – members

The IFoA is expanding its research in this area to contribute to the public debate and the development of a long-term solution to the funding of adult social care.

We have identified 2 work streams that the working party will focus on:

1. The sustainability of care funding in the UK and how it needs to change to avoid intergenerational issues created by a rapidly ageing society and a worsening dependency ratio.
2. Unmet care needs and how social and private insurance can provide part of the funding solution including constructing a data set to enable modelling of potential solutions and engaging with policymakers on how they can support the creation of better data sets to enable more informed social care policy design.

The challenges facing social care are significant and it will take creativity and commitment to overcome them. Actuaries can play a significant role in helping to develop sustainable methods of paying for care that will stand the test of time. Skills/experience

Do you have an interest in social care and have any or all of the relevant skills:

• Knowledge of the state funding system of social care
• Analytical
• Model building
• Product design
• Data analysis

Some knowledge of the social care system in the country in which you are based would be desirable.

Time commitment

The group will support 2 work streams. Applicants will be allocated to the work streams based on experience, knowledge, and availability. It is expected that the time commitment of each work stream will be around 2 hours per month. Meetings will take place virtually and location is not a barrier.
