Actuaries managing cyber risk

The IFoA Review Team has published its ninth report Actuaries managing Cyber Risk.

The aim of our thematic review is to highlight examples of where actuaries are involved in working with cyber risk, either periodically through risk management activities, or day-to-day, where actuaries may be pricing experts providing products to the market.

The report author Alan Marshall, IFoA Review Actuary, said: “Cyber risk is all around us, both in a professional context and more widely in our day-to-day lives. The financial system, and wider society needs such as health and security, relies heavily on the ongoing robustness of information security and in turn operational resilience. This presents an opportunity for actuaries to use technical and domain skills to extend influence in this field of work.

“Thank you to everyone who has taken part and given time to our review. This has undoubtedly helped us in assessing relevant findings to support both our members and the regulatory activity of the IFoA.

I hope the findings and conclusions are of interest to a wide audience and we look forward to ongoing discussions and debate in this exciting field.”

To support the publication of the report, we hosted a webinar to explore the key findings in January 2025. Members can now watch a video of the webinar on the IFoA Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
