The Big Pitch 2026 results announced

8 April 2026

On 18 March at Staple Inn, we hosted the second edition of The Big Pitch, an annual event where members present bold, forward-thinking ideas tackling the biggest challenges in health and care.

The unique event gives guests the chance to put the speakers on the spot in a Q&A and to vote for the most compelling research to be considered for further funding and publication.

At this year’s gathering, we showcased three diverse and compelling presentations:

  • Ankit Nanda outlined a pricing and reserving model that actuaries could use to assess the impact of healthcare interventions. He highlighted how well-designed interventions can triple smoking cessation rates, double medication adherence, and reduce hospital admissions by 29%.
  • Paul Klumpes followed with a presentation of a cashflow model examining long term financial pressures facing NHS trusts. Using two trusts as case studies, his proposal explored how the model could be used to assess financial sustainability and the potential societal return on investment.
  • Fiona Fan, Michiel Luteijn and Jacky Tam concluded by demonstrating how traditional actuarial techniques can be integrated with machine learning models to achieve both optimal impact and greater transparency.

Audience engagement was high, with a lively 30-minute Q&A session before the final audience vote. While all three ideas received strong support, Ankit Nanda’s paper, Behavioural Economics for Insurance Nudges, emerged as the winner, reflecting broad interest in the topic across the audience.
