Systemic Risk of Reinsurance Working Party – Chair, Deputy Chair and members

Application closing date: 21 December 2025

The IFoA is seeking to appoint both members and suitably experienced non-members to join the life practice area’s new Systemic Risk of Reinsurance Working Party. The group will consist of one Chair, one Deputy Chair and around six members.

The group would welcome applicants with an academic specialism or from risk practitioners.

Background

The growing use of and reliance on reinsurance/retrocession and other risk transfer techniques by direct insurers and reinsurers spanning different jurisdictions may be giving rise to concentration risks (both in terms of jurisdiction and counterparty).

They may also create other risk exposures not visible or properly understood by (re)insurers themselves, rating agencies and shareholders.

In addition, regulators – whose remits concern the safety and soundness of individual firms as well as wider financial stability – may also not fully recognise the risks.

The working party’s proposed outputs are a research paper, short articles, a conference presentation and a roundtable.

Time commitment

The time commitment varies and will be approximately 3.5 hours per month. The working party will meet fortnightly. Location is not a barrier as meetings will be held online.
