Pensions - Public sector pensions Working Party - Members

Application closing date: 03 May

The IFoA is seeking to appoint 6–8 members to join the new Public Sector Pensions Working Party. We are looking for volunteers with expertise and a strong interest in public sector pensions, including (but not limited to) the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and wider public sector arrangements.

Both IFoA members and suitably experienced non-members involved in public sector pensions are welcome to apply.

The Working Party will provide expert support to the IFoA Pensions Board on issues relating to public sector pensions, and will help to ensure that the voice of actuaries is heard in this important area. This will include identifying and responding to consultations, monitoring industry and policy developments, and considering professional and reputational issues affecting actuaries working in public sector pensions.

The group may also undertake research and develop thought leadership, as appropriate, to support the profession and the wider public interest.

Potential areas of work and outputs include:

  • Providing input into consultations affecting public sector pensions where there are actuarial issues.
  • Identifying consultations and other relevant industry or policy developments where the IFoA should contribute.
  • Considering professional and reputational issues for actuaries advising or working in public sector pensions.
  • Developing thought leadership on emerging issues in public sector pension scheme design, funding and governance.
  • Producing articles, blogs or other written material aimed at actuaries, policymakers and the wider public.
  • Contributing to IFoA webinars, events or conference sessions related to public sector pensions.

Time commitment

The time commitment varies, but will not be more than a maximum of 2 hours per month. The working group will consist of quarterly meetings with more regular meetings as required.
