AI, Data Science and Emerging Technologies Symposium 2026 Organising Committee

Application closing date: 14 December

The IFoA is seeking to appoint both members and suitably experienced non-members to join the Organising Committee for the second symposium hosted by the AI, Data Science and Emerging Technologies Practice Board (AIDSET) following the success of their inaugural symposium which took place in March earlier this year.

This event will focus on the intersection of actuarial science with AI, data science, and emerging technologies, and aims to deliver thought-provoking content that supports professional development and business innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help shape the theme and structure of the AIDSET Symposium 2026
  • Review and select speaker submissions following the Call for Speakers
  • Identify and approach potential plenary speakers from within and outside the profession
  • Collaborate with the IFoA Global Events team and Communities team to ensure smooth delivery of the symposium
  • Attend regular committee meetings and contribute to planning discussions
  • Conduct peer review of presentation slides
  • Potentially chair a session on the day

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience in data, AI, data science, machine learning, or emerging technologies
  • Understanding of actuarial practice and its evolving landscape
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute ideas in a team setting
  • Prior experience with event planning or speaker engagement is a plus but not essential

Time commitment

Committee members are expected to attend virtual planning meetings every 2-3 weeks and contribute to tasks between meetings. The commitment is expected to run from early 2026 through to the symposium delivery in September 2026, with the main work happening between January and May.

Benefits of joining the committee include the chance to

  • Influence the technical content of the symposium
  • Broaden your network
  • Increase your awareness of current industry topics and issues
  • Expand your current skills by chairing (or learning to chair) a session at the symposium.
  • Time invested can be counted for CPD
