Climate change: Getting to grips with climate modelling challenges | General Insurance Spring Webinar Series 2026

Fri 24 Apr 2026 -
12:30 - 13:30 (BST)

Climate change remains the defining issue of our generation, but how should you actually go about incorporating its effects into your day-to-day actuarial work?  With SS5/25 upping the expectation on all UK insurers, this is no longer a topic that can be ignored.

Actuaries and CROs need to have a range of tools in their pocket to navigate this evolving landscape: some situations will call for a simple, practical adjustment to be made to existing methods, while for others, a more in-depth understanding will be needed.

In this session, presented by members of the IFoA General Insurance Climate Change Working Party, we will focus on:

  • Tools and techniques for modelling the impact of climate change on insurers – mapping climate risks to lines of business.
  • External models and climate change – what questions should you be asking?
  • Developments in climate litigation – joining the dots.

As climate risks continue to evolve and the issues become more wide-ranging, this webinar will help you to ask the right questions of underwriters, claims handlers and others so that you are well-placed to determine the most appropriate course of action.
