The Stewardship Gap: Closing the Distance Between Policy and Practice Working Party – Chair and members

Application closing date: 26 July

The IFoA is seeking to appoint 6 to 10 members to join a new stewardship working party. Both IFoA members and suitably experienced non-members (for example, asset owners, asset managers, stewardship specialists, sustainability analysts) are welcome to apply.

To define what ‘good stewardship’ looks like in actuarial practice, helping actuaries, trustees, and advisers understand how stewardship can be applied consistently and effectively in investment and risk management.

Potential areas of research and outputs include:

  • Good practice guidance: Practical criteria and case studies for effective stewardship and engagement (via managers or direct)
  • Measuring outcomes: Exploring approaches for evidencing stewardship results at company, portfolio, and system levels
  • Decision-useful reporting: Turning statutory ESG reports into concise, relevant insights for boards, trustees, and clients
  • Navigating global variation: Guidance for actuaries supporting organisations with different stewardship expectations across jurisdictions
  • Outputs: Short guidance notes/toolkits, case studies, webinars, and conference sessions

The working party would like to present at IFoA conferences.

Time commitment

Members are asked to devote approximately 2 to 4 hours per month. The working party will meet fortnightly at the outset, moving to monthly once established. Meetings will be held online so location is not a barrier.
