Actuaries and other financial professionals are increasingly aware of the risks presented by environmental issues, including tipping points related to biodiversity loss.

Our economy remains fundamentally reliant on nature, yet the climate and nature crises continue to interact and amplify each other.

In this session, André Ranchin (Hymans Robertson / IFoA Biodiversity Working Party) will provide an update on biodiversity loss, outline the implications for financial systems and discuss the role of natural capital investments.

Agenda

  • Introduction to biodiversity loss, including links to climate.
  • Timeline of key nature developments and summary of the work the IFoA is doing in this area.
  • Understanding and monitoring nature-related risks or opportunities for financial institutions.
  • Introduction to Natural Capital- what it is and why invest in it.
