Personal Financial Planning Working Party – members

The IFoA is seeking to appoint additional members to join the Personal Financial Planning Working Party. We are looking for volunteers with expertise and a strong interest in supporting individuals to understand and action their own finances. Both IFoA members and suitably experienced non members involved in financial planning are welcome to apply.

The Personal Financial Planning Working Party is looking to use actuaries’ skills to improve personal financial planning among individuals.

This includes identifying problems areas to consider and creating insights and commentary that can help improve the financial lives of individuals. The group may also undertake research and develop thought leadership, as appropriate, to support the profession and the wider public interest. 

Potential areas of work and outputs include:

  • Providing input into consultations affecting financial planning where there are actuarial issues
  • Identifying consultations and other relevant industry or policy developments where the IFoA should contribute
  • Developing thought leadership on emerging issues in individual financial planning 
  • Producing articles, blogs or other written material aimed at actuaries, policymakers and the wider public
  • Contributing to IFoA webinars, events or conference sessions related to financial planning

Time commitment

The time commitment varies depending on the projects but will usually be around an average of 2 to 3 a month in addition to quarterly meetings with more regular meeting as required for specific projects.
