Gen AI Working Party – members

Application closing date: 19 July

The IFoA Gen AI Working Party is seeking to appoint enthusiastic members to contribute to the advancement and application in general insurance, life, health and care, pensions, finance and investments, risk management, or any other areas/wider fields.

  • We organise thought-provoking webinars and workshops on the most heated topics in the field, which foster discussion among industry practitioners, and collaboration with academics
  • We also conduct research and case studies. We identify interesting actuarial research problems and data sets, and disseminate our works by publishing them via The Actuary magazine, journals, blogs, LinkedIn and conferences

The working party belongs to the IFoA’s AI and Emerging Technologies Board, which is an international research community, consisting of actuaries, data scientists, statisticians and academics bringing together diverse domain expertise to research and develop data science techniques in actuarial applications. Person specification

We welcome applications from both IFoA members and non-members. We are seeking individuals who are curious about Gen AI and motivated to contribute to its responsible and practical applications within actuarial and wider professional contexts.

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Practical experience in using Gen AI and its applications within actuarial, insurance, financial, or related domains
  • A willingness to contribute actively to collaborative research, case studies, events, or thought leadership initiatives
  • The ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment with practitioners, academics, and technical specialists
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to discuss ideas clearly and contribute to written outputs where appropriate
  • Availability to commit approximately 2 days per month, including participation in monthly meetings

We encourage applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and levels of experience. Though expertise in Gen AI is essential, curiosity, collaboration, and a willingness to contribute are equally valued.

Time commitment

Volunteers are asked to devote at least two days per month to perform research, collaborate and write up case studies. This includes participation at monthly online meetings lasting approximately one hour to allow us to widen this opportunity to all members. Calls will be arranged at a mutually convenient time for all involved. They may also be offered the chance to present at conferences or industry events.
