The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA's) Beijing group was formed in 2010 by a few active volunteers who organised local events

Today all Shanghai activities are organised by the Beijing Office, with the help of volunteers from the group.
Many of the group's activities are held jointly with the Beijing regional group, using video conferencing when speakers are based in Beijing.
Technical events can be exclusively for IFoA members, or they can be joint events with local insurance companies. Events with local insurance companies are normally held during visits from the IFoA Presidential team in order to expand the influence of the actuarial profession. Shanghai events also attract members from other actuarial societies such as the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and Actuaries Institute (Australia).
The regional communities in China have also started a tradition of holding an annual New Year Members Event and 'Thank-you' receptions for Volunteers.
