17 October 2022

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) is delighted that IFoA Fellow Charles Cowling, FIA has been named as incoming President-elect of the International Actuarial Association (IAA). Cowling will take up the year-long Presidency on 1 January 2024.

Charles Cowling, IAA President-elect, said: “I am honoured to be elected to the role of President-elect of the IAA. This is a very exciting time to be an actuary, with actuaries globally contributing hugely to work on finance, data analysis and complex risk modelling. Actuaries have recently shown the important value they can bring in the areas of climate change and pandemics and I hope to support the further growth and influence of the actuarial profession around the world.”

Matt Saker, IFoA President, said: “We would like to congratulate Charles on this appointment and wish him every success as he prepares to take on the IAA Presidency. Charles has been an active volunteer for both the IFoA and the IAA for some years and has played a significant role in helping to champion actuarial science and the value that the profession brings to the global financial sector and beyond.”

Micheline Dionne, IAA President, said: “As the incoming IAA President, I am delighted to welcome Charles as the incoming President-elect. His wealth of knowledge on many actuarial topics including pensions, and his already established leadership in IAA matters, from chairing the IAA Renewal Task Force to the first ever IAA Advance Committee, has shown how important he is to the international profession. He will be a great addition to the Presidential team with Roseanne Harris serving as the Immediate Past-President following her great mandate.”
