IFoA accreditation for universities and degree programmes

IFoA accreditation provides independent recognition that a university programme, or specific modules within a programme, meet the standards expected by the actuarial profession. It demonstrates that programme content and assessment are broadly comparable to the IFoA curriculum and supports students on their journey towards becoming qualified actuaries.

We have agreements with universities across the globe, enabling graduates to be exempt from some of our subjects.

The IFoA offers two types of accreditation

Accredited by subject

Accreditation for individual modules that meet the requirements of specific IFoA subjects.

Full programme accreditation

Accreditation for established programmes that demonstrate broader alignment with the IFoA curriculum and quality standards. Eligible departments may also be awarded Accredited Centre Status.

What are the benefits of becoming accredited?

IFoA accreditation is recognised internationally as a mark of quality and academic excellence.

Benefits include:

  • Enhanced reputation and profile
  • Recognition that programme content aligns with IFoA curriculum
  • Stronger links with the actuarial profession
  • Increased attractiveness to prospective students
  • Opportunities to engage with industry and professional networks
  • Access to IFoA branding and promotional materials

Students on accredited programmes may also be eligible to apply for exemptions from selected IFoA examinations, subject to meeting the required standards.
