Reserving Forum – Chair

The General Insurance (GI) Board is seeking applications for the Chair of the refreshed Reserving Forum. We welcome applications from Fellows, Associates and suitably experienced individuals with a strong interest in general insurance reserving and are keen to attract a broad range of perspectives, including those from different career stages, sectors, geographical locations and areas of technical expertise.

The forum will bring together actuaries and industry professionals with an interest in reserving to provide specialist insight, discuss current and emerging issues, and help identify developments, opportunities and priorities for the general insurance community. It will form part of a consistent structure alongside the pricing and capital forums.

What will the Reserving Forum do?

  • Horizon scan and identify emerging reserving issues and market developments.

  • Share expertise, insights and good practice across the reserving community.

  • Identify potential research, thought leadership, learning and engagement opportunities.

  • Provide a sounding board for relevant working parties and other general insurance activity where useful.

  • Bring developments, challenges, opportunities and recommended areas of focus to the GI Board.

The forum will help shape ideas rather than directly commission or deliver formal activity. Research and thought leadership proposals will be progressed through GIRTL (General Insurance Research and Thought Leadership Committee), while webinar, event, CPD and lifelong learning ideas will be considered through GILL (General Insurance Lifelong Learning Committee), and the relevant agreed processes.

The Chair role

  • Provide leadership for the forum and support an active and engaged membership.

  • Agree, with forum members, the forum's meeting schedule and ways of working, ensuring sufficient activity to fulfil its purpose.

  • Provide quarterly updates to the GI Board on forum activities, emerging issues, key discussions and recommended areas of focus.

  • Represent reserving matters within the wider general insurance governance structure.

  • Sit on the GI Board as the reserving lead.

  • Support succession planning and the periodic review and refresh of forum membership.

Tenure

Three years in the first instance.

What you will gain

  • The opportunity to influence discussion and priorities within the general insurance practice area.

  • A platform to contribute your expertise to the profession's thought leadership and learning activities.

  • Access to a network of experienced reserving practitioners.

  • Opportunities to broaden your professional profile and volunteer experience.

Time commitment

Meeting frequency will be determined by the Chair and forum members to ensure the forum can effectively deliver against its objectives, priorities and emerging issues. The Chair should expect to attend around 4 GI Board meetings annually, together with forum meetings and related activities as required. Most meetings will be held virtually, although there may be occasional opportunities to meet in person.
