The IFoA Foundation is seeking to recruit 3 new trustees.

Applications welcomed from IFoA members worldwide and from a diverse range of candidates.

About the IFoA Foundation 

Our mission is ‘Actuaries Supporting Others’ — opening every door for the next generation of actuaries across three objectives: Rewarding Excellence, Supporting Our Community, and Addressing Future Challenges.

Since 2020:

  • 384 students empowered with hardship grants
  • 308 scholarships awarded globally
  • 173 graduates mentored across 24 countries
  • 37,000+ school pupils inspired
  • £1.25 million+ raised
  • 15 partners
  • 65+ volunteers across 19+ countries

Role description

Trustees share collective responsibility for the governance, strategy and operations of the IFoA Foundation.

Governance and compliance

  • Oversee the IFoA Foundation in line with its charitable objects, constitution and OSCR requirements
  • Act in the best interests of the IFoA Foundation at all times

Strategy and planning

  • Shape and deliver the 2026 to 2031 strategy, including the transition to operational independence
  • Identify and seize opportunities to grow the IFoA Foundation’s reach and impact

Fundraising and partnerships 

  • Drive fundraising through the patrons programme, corporate partnerships and legacy giving 
  • Cultivate relationships with donors and partners; champion the IFoA Foundation externally

Stakeholder relations 

  • Report to the IFoA Management Board annually 
  • Contribute to sub-committees and governance workstreams as needed

Person specification

Essential  

  • Committed to diversity, inclusion and social mobility in the actuarial profession
  • Strategic thinker who can contribute constructively at board level
  • Collaborative, with strong interpersonal skills for a small volunteer‑led team
  • Willing to champion the IFoA Foundation actively within and beyond the IFoA community
  • Sound judgement and integrity, always acting in the charity’s best interests

Desirable  

  • Experience of charity governance or trusteeship
  • Fundraising capability – corporate partnerships, patrons programme or legacy giving
  • Experience on an IFoA board, committee or working party
  • Networks that could benefit the IFoA Foundation’s profile or fundraising
  • Background in education, social mobility, financial literacy or STEM outreach
