Annals of Actuarial Science (AAS) is seeking to appoint two new Editors.
AAS, which is owned by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) and published by Cambridge University Press, is the IFoA’s peer reviewed academic journal, containing theoretical and applied research papers in all areas of actuarial science. It is an online only, Gold Open Access journal, publishing three issues per year. AAS acts as a key part of our research and thought leadership strategy to advance actuarial science, as well as being an outward and international facing element of our position as a leading learned society.
The AAS Editorial Board currently consists of an Editor-in-Chief, two Editors, nineteen Assistant Editors and four Advisory Board members. We are seeking two excellent candidates to join the Board in the Editor roles. The positions are open to all applicants with the relevant experience and skills; location is not a barrier as participation in meetings is via online call.
Key tasks
The role of the two Editors is to assist and support the Editor-in-Chief in the management, production and development of the journal. The Editors are responsible for:
- Managing the peer review process for manuscripts submitted to the journal
- Reviewing submitted manuscripts as required, as well as occasional submissions not subject to peer review, e.g., guest editorials
- Facilitating delivery and development of the journal’s ‘product vision’ and strategic development to ensure it meets the needs of audiences and communities
- Contributing to the selection and evaluation process for prize winning papers
- Taking a proactive role in promoting the journal.
Key skills and experience
The Editors must:
- Have published significantly in peer reviewed actuarial-science and/or related journals
- Have some prior experience of acting as an Editor or part of an Editorial team
- Have a solid understanding of emerging themes and trends in research in actuarial science and related fields
- Understand the processes and issues involved in meeting publication and production requirements for a world class international journal
- Have experience of, or be willing to learn about, the broader landscape of academic publishing
- Have an interest in and be willing to work in support of knowledge exchange between the academic community and the IFoA membership.
