Consultation on creation of a single insurance standard
The IFoA is consulting on proposals to combine Actuarial Profession Standards (APSs) G1 and L1 into a single insurance standard, APS I1: Duties and Responsibilities of Insurance Actuaries, and withdraw APSs G1 and L1. The single standard is intended to consolidate the relevant provisions into a single, unified, standard, simplifying the current structure by covering all insurance actuarial roles within one document, rather than maintaining separate standards for different sectors; remove unnecessary duplication in PC requirements by enabling members who hold a Chief Actuary (Life) Practising Certificate to undertake Appropriate Actuary roles without needing to hold a Chief Actuary (Life, Non-Directive) PC; and by combining the standards, achieve a more proportionate approach to PCs for members undertaking Chief Actuary responsibilities across both life and non-life business.
Consultation on APS X3 and associated guidance
The IFoA is consulting on proposed revisions to APS X3: the Actuary as Expert in Legal Proceedings and its associated guidance. The proposed revisions to the standard are intended to improve clarity and bring references up to date. The proposed revised guidance now contains case studies, to contextualise the application of APS X3, and contains further clarifications to support members.
The consultation remains open to submissions from members and firms until 31 August 2026.
