Rest break record slips

25 August 2026

New rest break recording slips

To better support candidates with access and inclusion arrangements during IFoA exams, we have introduced rest break record slips.

Rest break record slips are designed to help keep track of your rest breaks and calculate your revised exam end time throughout your exam.

Candidates sitting in exam centres

A rest break record slip will be placed on your desk before your exam. Details of your approved rest break time and any approved extra time will be pre-populated along with your original exam end time for reference.

You must inform the invigilator when you wish to take a break. The invigilator will the record the duration of each break on the rest break slip, each time you take a rest break.

The invigilator will update your exam end time accordingly on the record slip. They will place the record slip back on your desk so that you can clearly see your revised finishing time throughout your exam.

To ensure your rest breaks are recorded accurately, please remember to raise your hand whenever you wish to take a rest break, even if you remain seated at your desk.

Should an incident occur during the examination that results in the allocation of additional mitigation time, the record slip will be used to record the extra time awarded. Your examination end time will be updated accordingly.

At the end of your exam you should leave you rest break record slip on your desk and an invigilator will collect it.

Candidates sitting under remote invigilation (RI)

If you are sitting your examination remotely, you do not need to use a rest break record slip to record your rest breaks.
