Membership of IFoA Council is an important role. IFoA Council members ensure that we are building a future for our organisation that accurately reflects what members want and need, and addresses the demands and evolution of the actuarial profession.
Council members are responsible for setting the long-term vision for the IFoA and the actuarial profession. They help to represent and develop both the organisation and the profession by gathering opinions from peers and practice areas and making strategic recommendations to the IFoA Board.
We rely on members all over the world with strong governance, leadership, and accountability skills, to step up and fill that role.
This year’s Council election is your chance to play a leading role in the development of the actuarial profession. This year there are 9 vacancies in the General Constituency and 1 in the Scottish Constituency.
As a member of Council you will:
Council membership last three years and takes up about 10 to 15 days a year. Scottish constituency Council members automatically become members of the Scottish Board, which meets six times a year.
Changes to the General and Scottish Constituencies for Council election will come into effect for the 2026 Council elections.
In 2025 Council agreed to reduce the Scottish Constituency from 6 Council members to 3 and increase the General Constituency from 24 to 27. The number of Council members for each constituency is proportionate to the number of members entitled to vote in that constituency.
Members of the Scottish Constituency can opt to change to the General Constituency to stand and vote in Council elections. To change your constituency, you can log into the IFoA’s member area.
Our next council election will take place later this year, and nominations are encouraged from any member, anywhere in the world, with the requisite skills and time to take on the role.
If you are Fellow or Associate of the IFoA and are ready to find out more about the nominations and election process, please visit our dedicated nominations website.
Nominations close on 21 May 2026.
