15 November 2022

Voting opens on 15 November for the proposal to adopt Chartered Actuary designations for qualified IFoA actuaries.

On 15 November voting opens for the proposal to adopt the Chartered Actuary designation for qualified IFoA actuaries.

All voting members should receive an email from Civica Election Services on that day. The vote will be open from midday (GMT) on 15 November until midday on 13 December.

The proposal is designed to:

  • Protect the integrity of our qualifications and standards

Providing designations that will be legally protected so they can only be used by qualified and regulated IFoA members.

  • Elevate the status of our members

Chartered Status is recognised worldwide as a mark of high professional standards.

  • Position the profession for a successful future

The Chartered Actuary designations align to the IFoA’s strategy of repositioning the profession and supporting our members to move into new sectors and domains. It will also differentiate IFoA actuaries from other adjacent disciplines.

Under the proposal:

  • Fellow IFoA members will be designated Chartered Actuary (Fellow) – using the post-nominals FIA C.Act or FFA C.Act
  • Associate IFoA members will be designated Chartered Actuary (Associate) – using the post-nominals AIA C.Act or AFA C.Act

Members will be able to continue describing themselves as a Fellow or Associate of the IFoA if they feel it best for their career, and to keep using current post-nominals of FIA/FFA or AIA/AFA.
