This role is hybrid, both working from home and in our London hub. The role holder must be able to attend the London office for regular meetings as required.

Purpose of the job
The Digital Marketing Channels Lead is responsible for leading on the management and continual improvement of the IFoA’s digital marketing channels including: the main public actuaries.org.uk website and CMS; mass-email, SMS and other direct, “one-to-many” channels; Social Media; and relevant MSDynamics/CRM “one-to-one/few” channels; as well as supporting the organisation’s broader digital transformation across key customer journeys.
The Digital Marketing Channels Lead works closely with colleagues in the Member Value, Brand and Marketing Communications Group, and the broader Membership Directorate, and regularly with the wider business, to ensure that the IFoA’s digital channels are meeting customer needs, and supporting the operational delivery – and strategic intent – of all marketing, communications, and brand campaigns.
The Digital Marketing Channels Lead is responsible for evolving the member experience across our digital platforms, from awareness and acquisition, through to activation, progression and retention. This involves working both with in-house expertise, and key partners and suppliers to continually maintain and develop the public website and social footprint, whilst increasing integration with, and ensuring accessibility to the IFoA’s other digital touchpoints and CRM, such as: the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE); The Member Portal; Dynamics and transactional journeys; The Actuary Magazine and CMI Websites.
Principal accountabilities
- Oversee the strategy, planning, delivery and ongoing improvement of the IFoA’s digital marketing channels including: the main public actuaries.org.uk website and CMS; mass-email, SMS and other direct, “one-to-many” channels; Social Media; and relevant MSDynamics/CRM “one-to-one/few” channels
- Oversee the day-to-day delivery of content and information across the IFoA’s digital platforms and work with colleagues across the MV, B and MC Group to ensure they are coordinated with our wider efforts and planned effectively using the IFoA’s Communications Calendar.
- Ensure the tracking and reporting of monthly metrics across the IFoA’s digital platforms including the website, social media, and email.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all IFoA digital platforms and channels.
- Be responsible for the content strategy on the IFoA website and ensure that all pages are updated to be kept current and accurate.
- Plan the IFoA homepage, to act as the organisations virtual “shop window” ensuring that it helps the organisation achieves its goals and increases engagement and connection between the IFoA and its members.
- Supervise the publishing of content on to the IFoA website and blog, ensuring it is effective, clear, and on brand.
- Develop and maintain a strategy for the continual improvement of the IFoA website ensuring the site adopts best practices and meets members’ needs and expectations.
- Be the UX lead in the organisation, identifying issues within the IFoA website and between platforms (VLE, digital communities etc) and work with in-house expertise and external agencies to make improvements.
- Ensure the website meets accessibility standards and develop and maintain strategies to improve SEO.
- Oversee the IFoA’s email marketing strategy, ensuring the Dot Digital platform is used to full effect, with the objective of reducing the overall volume of email traffic, while increasing its effectiveness.
- Capitalise on the capabilities provided by Dot Digital and the introduction of Microsoft Dynamics to increase the targeting and personalisation of emails to deliver a better member experience.
- Oversee the execution and ongoing refinement of the IFoA’s social media strategy to help increase effectiveness and engagement.
- Oversee the delivery of both organic and paid social media campaigns.
- Develop an effective SMS strategy for the IFoA and build the usage of SMS into the organisations digital communications.
- Support the Communications Lead in the development of Podcast and Blog content strategies.
Dimensions
The role has three direct reports: Social Media Executive, Digital Content Executive and Digital Communications Executive.
The IFoA membership rests at approximately 34,000 members, whose views will need to be taken into account to ensure this roleholder fulfils the purpose of the job. There are no budgetary management responsibilities associated with this role, although the management of budget tracking and the engagement of resources will be needed to ensure successful delivery of key role accountabilities.

- Has authority to make decisions within overall objectives and will report to the Head of Marketing and Propositions
- Decisions are likely to have medium to long-term implications for the IFoA.
Complexity
- High volume of communications messages with numerous touchpoints across digital channels requires careful planning
- Large number of stakeholders across the organisation with competing demands and priorities that need to be managed
- Oversight of a significant number of channels with individual CRMs and support platforms all of which require varying degrees of technical knowledge.
Impact
The role will have significant impact on the development of the IFoA digital marketing output and therefore on its visibility in the external sphere. The job holder is expected to provide specialist digital marketing advice, expertise and support to other areas of the organisation who own and operate their own tactical marketing plans. The job holder will also run special projects for digital marketing issues, frequently mobilising colleagues from other organisational areas.
Knowledge and experience
Essential:
- Experience of people management with evidence of being able to mentor and develop staff
- Experience of managing a complex website and its content publishing operations.
- Experience of working with Umbraco websites and CMS.
- Experience working with MS Dynamics marketing automation and related MSOffice APIs and integrations.
- Involvement in delivering web development projects including working with in-house and agency expertise and managing internal stakeholders.
- Experience of UX design and development both within and between platforms.
- Experience of managing accessibility issues and SEO with regard to websites.
- Experience of working with email management tools e.g. Dot Digital.
- Experience of managing social media channels and related posting, hosting and reporting tools
- Strong communicator who can explain technical digital concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly and accurately.
- Ability to manage a variety of projects at high speed, without quality or accuracy being impacted.
- Interest in comms and marketing technology and its application and development
Desirable:
- Experience of working for a professional body or membership organisation.
- Experience working with B2B brands in the financial services sector.
- Experience of working internationally in global organisations.
