AI² 2026 winners announced

9 October 2026

The winners of the Artificial Intelligence and Actuarial Innovation 2026 (AI² 2026) competition were revealed at the AI and Emerging Technologies Symposium 2026, recognising innovative AI solutions that tackle actuarial and business challenges.

The competition invited individuals and teams to turn everyday challenges into practical, impactful AI-driven solutions, with entries assessed on actuarial relevance, technical quality and business value.

Following presentations from three shortlisted finalists, the judging panel selected an overall winner whose solution demonstrated outstanding innovation, practicality and potential for real-world impact.

Meet the finalists

Submission 1

RIDA + RIDApp: Turning the LLM Sandbox into Professional Actuarial Work

A practical framework and supporting application designed to help actuaries use large language models reliably, securely and audibly within professional workflows. It focuses on embedding LLMs into actuarial work with appropriate evidence, review and governance rather than treating AI as a standalone tool.

David Spreckley, Government Actuary's Department

Rebecca Wodcke, Government Actuary's Department

Samuel Kinshuck, Government Actuary's Department

Submission 2

Excel audit agent (Glass Box)

A human-governed agentic AI tool that reconstructs Excel workbook logic independently in Python and reconciles the results against both the spreadsheet and the general ledger. By tracing discrepancies back to individual cells, formulas and assumptions, it addresses a significant operational and governance risk in spreadsheet-based actuarial and financial work.

Isaac Shukla, Institut des actuaires, Paris, France

Divyank Garg, Institute of Actuaries, London, United Kingdom

Submission 3

From Actuarial Code to Governed Knowledge

An agentic documentation pipeline that turns complex actuarial software code, configuration and workflow information into structured, traceable documentation. Developed using SCOR's Life & Health Reserving Pre-Production Tool Suite, it reduced an initial documentation task from roughly a week of manual work to a draft produced in around 20 minutes, while retaining expert review and governance.

Winning submission

From Actuarial Code to Governed Knowledge

Yann Diserbeau and Ricky D'Gama, SCOR

The winning solution addresses a very practical actuarial challenge: making complex in-house software understandable, maintainable and usable without relying on a small number of specialists. Its evidence-driven AI pipeline traces code and configuration before generating documentation, creating a scalable way to turn technical knowledge into governed, audience-specific guidance while keeping experts in control.

"The live demonstrations highlighted just how differently AI can be applied to real-world actuarial challenges. All three finalists presented solutions with clear relevance to everyday actuarial practice, but Yann and Ricky’s submission stood out for combining a compelling use case with a solution that was both practical and scalable. It demonstrated how AI can make specialist actuarial knowledge more accessible and easier to maintain, which resonated strongly with both the audience and the expert panel." - Karol Gawlowski, Deputy Chair of the AI and Emerging Technologies Symposium Organising Committee and Competition Moderator

Looking ahead

We would like to thank everyone who entered, supported and participated in AI² 2026. The enthusiasm, creativity and technical expertise shown by participants and the quality of the submissions demonstrated the growing role of AI and emerging technologies across the actuarial profession. It also highlighted the opportunities these technologies present to drive innovation, improve decision-making and deliver practical business value.

As part of their prize, the winning team will host an IFoA webinar to share their solution and insights with the wider profession, helping to inspire further learning across the actuarial community..
