Support the Pensions Board with industry consultations

About the role

The Pensions Board is seeking volunteers to help respond to pensions industry consultations by government departments, regulators, and others.

Role overview

As a volunteer, you will work with the Pensions Board and Caolan Ward, the IFoA Policy Manager, to advise policymakers on regulatory and legislative decisions.

Your contributions will shape the IFoA’s responses to parliamentary inquiries and consultations from government departments, regulators, and other public interest bodies.

You will provide technical and policy input as part of a team alongside Pensions Board members, assist with drafting and reviewing consultation responses, and work closely with other experts to produce well-analysed consultation responses that represent the IFoA and support the public interest.

Time commitment

You will join a group of volunteers with various specialisms, available on an as-needed basis.

Response times for consultations can be unpredictable, and quick turnarounds are often required

There will be no formal regular meetings, but ad-hoc touchpoints as necessary.

An induction with the Chair and Policy Manager will be provided upon appointment, followed by engagement as needed.

Who should apply

We encourage expressions of interest from qualified members, especially those with the following expertise:

The board would particularly welcome actuaries with a strong background in defined contribution (DC) pensions, and with a particular interest in contributing to various aspects of the pensions review planned by the government in the coming months.

Actuaries with a broad experience in one or more pensions topic areas and an interest in shaping policy are also encouraged to apply. Overseas members with relevant experience in other jurisdictions are equally welcome.
